Project three: One Vision, One Future: Financing health in Africa
A high-level event held at the Mandarin Oriental in Geneva, co-hosted by African governments and the African Union and supported by WHO, UNAIDS, and the Global Fund. Health ministers, finance officials, and leaders from multilateral institutions and development partners came together to discuss how African countries can move toward sustainable, domestically led health financing as external funding declines.
The morning opened with a presentation on the realities and challenges of health financing in Africa, followed by a fireside chat with ministers from Ethiopia and Ghana. Further sessions covered the African Union’s ALM Declaration on Investing in Health, the Accra Reset, and country-led approaches from Nigeria, South Africa, Uganda, Côte d’Ivoire, and Cameroon. Representatives from the World Bank, Spain, Japan, and the European Commission shared perspectives on coordinated partnerships, and the event closed with remarks from WHO.
My coverage included the keynote speakers, panelists, group photos, and the atmosphere of the room.
