CRPD@20: 20th Anniversary of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities

An event in Geneva marking 20 years since the adoption of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, hosted by the Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities under the theme “Recognition was only the beginning.”

The anniversary looked back at two decades of progress, including widespread ratification and stronger national legal frameworks, while focusing on the gap between legal commitments and the daily realities of persons with disabilities. Discussions centered on implementation and accountability, equality and inclusion, protection from violence and discrimination, independent living, accessibility, and how technology and climate change are shaping disability rights.

My coverage included speakers, panel discussions, group photos, and the atmosphere of the gathering.
